The name of our community is derived from the Telugu word Chimpi which means to 'cut'. We are not the only community of tailors in Andhra Pradesh. Darji, Simpi and Meerolu are the other communities of tailors in the state. But all of us claim descent from a Sudra father and a Bhanda mother.
